The Maitai Valley Road is Sunday’s scene for the annual NBS Nelson Striders Half Marathon and 10km with 115 runners and walkers entered.
The unique event has all estimating their finish times, and then without watches on the out and back course, the closest are rewarded on their finish time difference.
At stake in the Half is the infamous Boars Jaws – a.k.a Trevor Ruffell Tusk Trophy in remembrance of the 1994 ‘Maitai Incident’ when a band of Striders were set upon by an agitated wild boar.

The date for Captain Cook's Landing in 2018 will be Saturday the 21st July 2018
We will be celebrating with a limited field of Trail Runners the 20th anniversary of this iconic South Island trail run, so mark in you calendars the entry open date - 1st February 2018.
