290 are on The Dun Run’s September 1st startline, leaving only 10 places left in the long standing trailrun into the “backwoods of Nelson”

This year Nelson Events have added a Long Option, approximately 38kms,which starts from the Trafalgar Street Bridge and winds its way up the Maitai Valley along the river trail
At Smiths Ford the route heads inland up Big Hill Track and onto Bob Taylor Road before joining the Original Course competitors as they make their way on their 25km journey from the Dam.

All climb 878m to Coppermine Saddle but the ascent is quickly forgotten with the downward leg that follows the Dun Mountain Bus track which was NZ’s first railway line,...

With a field approaching sell out of 300, the Nelson Events team are thrilled that so many are taking on this magic challenge in the back woods of Nelson.

The trail is undergoing some maintenance starting this weekend which will limit the locals from adventuring out for a peek at the course, but will ensure it is in tip top condition for all on the 1st September.

Saturday , September 1st, and Nelson Events Dun Run is fast approaching a sell out 300 strong field.

Only 30 places remain, 15 in the Original 26km and 15 in the new 39km Long Course Option.

The Long Course starts right in the City and heads inland along the Maitai River trails for the initial 13km, climbing up the aptly named Big Hill Track before joining up with the “Original’s” just above the Dam. From there it’s upwards and onto the 1860’s mineral belt and down NZ’s first railway albeit horse drawn’

75 years young is the oldest competitor while the field is quite evenly spread between the sexes, 138 male & 122 female, a far cry from 20 years ago whereupon...

The Abel Tasman Coastal Classic celebrates its 25th anniversary in October and with it another sell out field of trailrunners for the iconic footrace from Awaroa to Marahau along the famed coastal track.

What began in 1994, in the infancy of off road events, quickly established itself as a “mustdo” on New Zealand’s running scene . This year’s event has an even split of men and women competing and has attracted over 40 entrants from overseas with 90% of the field travelling from outside the Nelson region. Also amongst them will be the two survivors, Chris Gates and Owen Rowse, keen to continue their legacy having completed every event.
