Off road is where it’s at …… that’s the opinion of 249 trail runners and walkers who have entered this Saturday’s Haven Realty Sanctuary Run.

Last year 116 turned up, but over double that and more will get their taste of Nelson’s ‘backwoods and beyond’ territory that will more than challenge some, especially over the 25km (long) course.

Ninety travel from outside the region, a healthy response to a Nelson Events marketing and promotion initiative assisted by the Nelson City Council and it’s Nelson Events Marketing & Development Programme which was set up to encourage visitors to travel here in the shoulder and winter period.

Still Time for Smiles in blitzing 60+ Record

Mike Morrissey of Kaikoura chats with Jessica Hughes at the Furneaux Lodge Checkpoint on Saturday. Mike finished at Camp Bay in a time of 2.24.45 taking just over four minutes off the record set back in 2006.

Fran Kerse (Nelson) also set a new record in the Female 60+ section in 3.04.26, smashing over 20 minutes off the time, as did Klaartje van Schie (Nelson) in the Female Under 40 section.

Three additions to the honours board with Blair McWhirter (Canterbury) and Dave Parsons (Wellington) going under two hours, and Klaartje van Schie (Nelson) under 2.25.
