Please note that it is possible for supporters not wanting to do the 12km walk to go direct to Furneaux Lodge and see the runners come through the midway point.
A small gear bag can be taken through to Furneaux so your supporter doesn't have to carry everything with them on their walk - please label this clearly with FURNEAUX - SUPPORTER.

Beachcomber Pier, Picton Town Wharf
Please note that there are usually three boats that will travel down.  Trailwalkers and supporters are usually on Boat 1, earlier start waves on Boat 2, and later waves on Boat 3.
The boat will you travel on is dependent on your start time - this is calculated from your half marathon estimate provided upon entry.
You will be advised which start boat to board on race morning.

Race Packs
Race numbers will be distributed on board the Beachcomber Cruise launches en route to the start.
For those staying at Furneaux Lodge on Friday night, these will be distributed at Ship Cove prior to your start.
You will need to bring your Registration Certificate with you - this will be emailed out to all participants in the week preceeding the event.  Please also ensure you have photo ID with you to uplift your race pack.

Start Time
Start times are advised on week prior to the event - this will be emailed to all competitors and is calculated according to your honest half marathon estimate provided upon entry.
We allocate this way so that your day will follow our safety guidelines and you won't beat us to the finish!  This should also ensure that you are running/walking with competitors of comparable pace.  If you have never completed a half marathon, it does not matter, just time yourself for one kilometre on the road and multiply by 21.

The Course
Ship Cove to Camp Bay - approximately 26km in distance (read from R to L).

Punga Cove is approx 500m from the finish at Camp Bay - once you have finished, you can walk through to Punga to receive your lunch, collect your bag and relax whilst you await the rest of the field to finish.

Safety
All competitors must carry the following minimum equipment on them at all times to cover all possible weather conditions:
*  Polypropylene, or equivalent (eg woollen) Top
*  Polypropylene, or equivalent (eg woollen) Hat
*  Polypropylene, or equivalent (eg woollen) Gloves
*  Windproof Jacket/Parka
*  Survival Blanket
*  Whistle

You will have a gear check prior to the start and there are also gear checks on route.
No Gear - No Start (simple as that).
We have this policy in place to ensure that if we strike wet/cold weather, or if you are injured on route that we know that you have the necessary gear to keep you warm until our safety crew can get you out.

Please note that for safety reasons, use of ipod, mp3 player, Walkman or similar is not permitted.  Enjoy the surroundings of the Queen Charlotte Track - the sounds are worth listening to as you enjoy your event.

Training
This is a trail run, therefore it is important that you encompass training on uneven terrain to prepare accordingly.

Check Points
A check point will be stationed at Furneaux Lodge.  It is necessary to carry your own drinks etc - it is possible to refill your water bottles at Furneaux.

Competitors must have their race number recorded at all checkpoints.  Ensure your number is clearly visible at all times on your front and call your number as you come through.

Passing
Faster runners to call 'coming through' and pass on the seaward side of the track.

Track Users
There are likely to be other users on the track - please respect them.

Medical
Exisiting medical conditions and allergies should be advised in writing and forwarded to the organisers at least one week prior to the event.  This information will be forwarded to our Emergency Response Team and should also be noted on the back of your race number.  Necessary emergency medications are to be carried by participants at all times.

Prizegiving Buffet
The Prizegiving Buffet is held at Furneaux Lodge.  We anticipate this commencing at 4.00pm, however, this will be dependent on arrival of the vessel at Furneaux from the finish line.  If you require special meals please (eg vegetarian, gluten intolerant etc) please indicate on your entry and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Returning to Picton (post event)
The timing of the return boat journey back to Picton following prizegiving is dependent on our timings on the day (ie what time the last competitor finishes, water/weather conditions etc).
We envisage that we will be back at Picton Pier around 7.45-8.00pm on the Saturday evening, however, please note this is only approximate.
North Island competitors - please note that you will not be back in Picton in time for the 6pm sailing.

Stay Put Option
It is possible for competitors to 'Stay Put' at Furneaux Lodge following prizegiving and spend the night at the lodge then travel back to Picton on Sunday with Beachcomber Cruises.  This will cost an additional $20 per person for the boat travel - accommodation must be booked and paid with Furneaux Lodge directly.

Stay Put at Furneaux Lodge - Saturday night only
Competitors who are staying put at Furneaux on Saturday night only will need to have their overnight bag on board that boat travelling to Furneaux.  Please listen carefully to instructions by our crew to make sure your bag is put on the correct boat on Saturday morning.  Please also ensure that it is clearly labelled with STAY PUT at FURNEAUX to help us ensure it gets to the right place.  Take your finish line bag with warm gear etc with you when you board (ie your overnight bag may travel independently of you).

Stay Put at Furneaux Lodge - Friday night
If you wish to stay at Furneaux Lodge on the Friday night, your entry fee will cover the boat fare with Beachcomber Cruises departing at either 9.30am or 1.30pm on Friday only.  If you wish to travel outside of these times then this will be at your own cost.  You need to notify us if you wish to travel on the Friday before the event, so we can book your boat accordingly.  You will then need to contact Furneaux Lodge directly to arrange transport to the Ship Cove startline on race day.

Furneaux Lodge - email info@furneaux.co.nz

Food/Supplements/Water
All food/supplement wrappers etc must be numbered to comply with the track's pack-in pack-out rubbish policy.

You will be able to refill your water bottles at the check point at Furneaux Lodge.  The tap is located on the edge of the verandah.

As it can be awhile between having your breakfast on Saturday morning and starting at Ship Cove, we suggest you may like to take a few energy nibbles for your boat ride, and you can also make yourself a hot drink on board.  As part of your entry you will receive lunch at Punga Cove, and then dinner at the prizegiving buffet at Furneaux Lodge.  You can purchase drinks at both Punga and Furneaux.

Gear

Each competitor can take a small bag with them on the boat with warm gear for the finish.  You will take this with you on the boat - so you can remove any extra clothing on your person before starting adn place into this bag.  It will then need to be left on the pier so that we can put it back on the boat to take to the finish.
Please listen to instructions on the day to ensure it is placed in the right spot (as we don't want it going to Furneaux directly).

Competitors with overnight bags for Furneaux need to label these clearly.  Please see note under Stay-Put option.

Toilets
There are toilet facilities on board the Beachcomber Vessels, as well as a toilet at Ship Cove.
Toilets on the track are located at Furneaux and at the finish at Camp Bay as well as Punga Cove.

Showers and Change of Clothing
Competitors change of clothing will be transported to Punga Cove.  Please keep this to a minimum - one small bag per person.
Showers are available at Punga Resort for competitor's use - these cost $3.  You can also hire a towel, however, this will cost extra.
