Cool stories from the 31st Edition of the McFadden McMeeken Phillips Lawyers TRAILATHLON

My name is Ciara I got your details from a mutual friend Mel Brereton. This year I did the New Nelson Events Woman's Trailathalon and it was great. This was my first ever triathlon and 10 weeks ago I wouldn't have been able to complete this. But I've been inspired. My brother passed away last July due to SUDEP (sudden unexplained death in Epilepsy). Through his story, we wanted to raise as much money and awareness as we can for epilepsy as there is just not enough treatment options and support for people living with this condition and it's a worldwide issue. My brother was a larger than life character, never took himself to seriously and always challenged himself and made the most of life's opportunities. He never let his condition dictate his life and he never played the sympathy card.

John loved adventures and he had done a skydive before but for his 30th birthday my mam bought him another jump and she decided to do it with him. She said it was the best thing she ever did. From this after John's passing my mam decided we should organise a sponsored skydive and donate the funds to Epilepsy Ireland and the make a wish foundation. We didn't think it would be as big as it has turned out lol. We have 41 jumpers, jumping across 3 countries. Ireland 26, Ozzy 5 and Nelson 10

We've called the campaign "Jump For John" and The aim is to raise €10,000 in his honor. In conjunction with this, we are all having a wee event afterward. Here in Richmond, I have organised a "Picnic in the Park" event. BYO Picnic, Gold Coin Donation Entry, Easter Egg Hunt $2, Raffles $1, Face Painting $2 and some Live Music. The planning of these events have played a major part in all my families healing.

In order to do the jump here the weight limit is 100kgs and after 2 babies I was quite a bit over that weighing in at 115.3kgs. So I made it my mission to lose the weight and had a great reason and drive. We did an 8 week biggest loser challenge at work and I have managed to lose 15kgs just a few 100gms to go but I'm determined to make it. ..... continued below ...

10 weeks ago there is no way I would have been able to complete the Trailathalon course with all that extra weight but I was super stoked to cross the finish line in under 2 hours

Thanks for putting on such an awesome event and I look forward to beating my time next year.
