Alpine Lodge Loop the Lake

Saturday’s Alpine Lodge Loop the Lake is once again a ‘sell out’ with a capacity 400 strong field entered to circuit Lake Rotoiti, Nelson Lakes.
While 165 are Nelson based, similar numbers travel from the rest of the South Island, whilst 70 North Islanders cross the Cook Strait.
Male and female percentages are almost identical, a far cry from the 1990’s when men dominated at around the 80% mark.
Last year’s women’s winner, Serena Kelly (Canterbury) returns and she’s likely to again be chased by Nelson’s Kerry Semmens.
Andre Bonny (Nelson) is in good form and he’ll be hoping to improve on his 4th (2017) and 3rd a year earlier.
Phil Costley 1.37.42 (2010) and Fleur Lattimore 1.54.50 (2012) hold the course records and they are likely to stand unless a Kenyan or two detours ‘Down Under”.
