I did the triathlon in 1993 and that was pretty tough. Had to run around the bradford park 4 times then cylce out to atawhai. My friend Christine has the oldest bike and was last but at the prize giving at the pub she won the bike it was so awesome that she won something. We then proceed to do the traithlon in Blenheim with her new bike. Such a feeling of achievement. cheer kathy Smith

Re: 25 years ... tell us about it!

I did my first Nelson Women's tri at the 10th Anniversary event. I did no training and had no idea what to expect.
Mum took me to the Botanic garden, I had my brother-in-laws flash bike (with aerodynamic bars) which I had only ridden a couple of times (just to get the seat right). On the trip there, mum said "are you sure you should do this, you have done no training?" my reply was "yep, I've paid my money I'm doing it".
That year the Munies pool was having its roof done, so the bike was to Hampden St Pool (cold and outdoors).
I just about threw up doing the bike, especially up the hill by the "castle", but I finished and was hooked.
I still have the spot prize from that event (and every event since). It was a pasta jar for spagetti and it was filled with MacIntosh lollies. I now fill it with pens.
I have had a great time competing with myself and over the years I have only slowed down about 2 minutes per year, so I consider that to be a good result. The tri is keeping me younger and fitter that I would be if I wasn't doing it.

SAFETY
The Organisers recommend that competitors wear a helmet for the Cycling section - love it!
