Supervision
Parents
- please note that we are unable to supervise your child. There must be
a designated caregiver accompany your child before they start, and be
there when they finish at Riverside Pool.
Why do an Aquathon?
As well
as doing a aquathon, you'll have great fun and get to compete with your
friends.
In your race bag you will receive your special Kauri Kids T-Shirt and
certificate (Teams receive one t-shirt and one cap per team, extra t-shirts
can be purchased).
Do I need to train?
No training is required, all you need to be able to do is swim and run.
Help is available on the day if you need it. However, if you want to prepare,
practice each element of the aquathon and focus on the hard part - the
transition.
This is the bit where you move from one activity to the other as quickly
as possible.
Try taking off and putting on your shoes as fast as you can. The more
times your try this, the easier it will be on the day. Maybe get yourself
some elastic shoe laces so you don't have to tie those double bows!
Safety Tips:
When running make sure you don't clip the heels of the person in front,
and save some energy for the climb over the NBS Obstacle Course.
As you come into the first transition place your shoes carefully in your
age group area and please remember where you left them. After climbing
off the NBS Obstacle Course return to your shoes quickly, and put them
back on for the dash to the pool - don't forget your goggles if you're
going to wear them.
Be careful, crossing the road we have marshals to aid you, but always
check before crossing the road. Listen carefully to their instructions.
Cross the bridge and follow the path along the river to the Riverside
Pool.
In the second transition place your shoes and clothing carefully in your
age group area.
When you start the swim remember not to run by the edge of the swimming
pool as if you slip your race could be over. You can only WALK
in the pool area.
Give yourself lots of space when you're swimming. Goggles will help you
see underwater if you have them!
All that stands between you and the finish tape are two lengths of the
pool so dig in deep, you're nearly there!
Smile as you exit the pool - you are now An
official KAURI KID!
Stage 1 - Running
This is the first bit of your race, the start is tough go easy and settle
into your rhythm. If you are feeling a bit tired, take your time. Remember,
this is not a race, it is about doing your best. Look where you are going
and focus on getting round the loop.
Transition One
To get on the NBS Obstacle Course you will need to take your shoes off.
Place your shoes in your age group area as quickly as you can.
Stage 2 - The NBS Obstacle Course
This is the fun part, take your time and watch out for others. Follow
the instructions of the course marshall.
Transition Two
When you get off the NBS Obstacle Course head round to the transition
area and locate your shoes and googles.
Stage 3 - Swimming
An Aquathon ends with the swim. You will be swimming with lots of other
kids, so make sure you focus on your swim, keep an eye on the end of the
pool and don't worry about anyone else. There will be life guards on hand
- if you need them they will be there.
The Finish
Smile - you've made it!
