The
Subway Dun Run Race
Information
The Course
(Rugged but runnable. Approximately 25km)
From the Maitai Dam, the route ascends the Dun Mountain Saddle (875m)
following the south branch of the Maitai River.
Then over to Coppermine Saddle and downhill along New Zealand's first
railway line, finishing at OK Corral, Brook Street, Nelson.
This is a testing run - but not impossible.
Entry
If you can complete a half marathon in under 2.45 hours then you can
enter the Subway Dun Run
(so if you are a Trailwalker and meet the time criteria then you can
enter the Subway Dun Run in 2010)
Entry Fee: $45, which includes lunch

Entries close 9th of October 2010.
Minimum Age
The minimum age of competitors is 16 years
Training Runs with the NBS Nelson Striders
Meet at the OK Corral, Brook Valley, 8am
No charge
Sunday July 4th: OK Corral then up to Third House Junction via Brook
Track and down 'rail trail'
Sunday August 1st: OK Corral to Third House Junction via Redwood Track
(just before Brook Camp gate), then to Fringed Hill and back down road
Sunday September 5th: OK Corral to Third House and return
Sunday October 3rd: OK Corral to Third House through to Fringed Hill
then back to Junction and return.
Withdrawals
Withdrawals must be received in writing, either to PO Box 129, Nelson,
7040 or via email to admin@nelsonevents.co.nz
Withdrawals received before the 9th of October will incur a $25.00 administration
fee.
Withdrawals received after this date are not eligible for a refund.
Start
Maitai Dam in wave starts, based on your honest half marathon estimate.
8.45am for 2.00hrs plus Half Marathon
9.15am for 1.40-1.59 hrs Half Marathon
9.30am for sub 1.40hrs Half Marathon
Transport
Transport will be available to the start, which is 12km from Nelson
City.
The transport is from the Third House Walkway carpark in Brook Street
(OK Corral) - departing 7.15am. To find where the OK Corral is - click

If you are leaving your car at the OK Corral, please park your vehicle
on Brook St.
Cost of $10 for this service.
Bookings are essential, and must be confirmed by October 1st.

Survival
Compact First Aid Kit - $15 - 150x90x25mm, 80gm, in a ziplock bag,
contains alcohol wipes, antiseptic wips, content list, non-adherent
dressing (sm), plasters (washable), plaster fabric strip 100mm, safety
pins, survival blanket with instructions, tri-angular bandage
Safety
All competitors must carry the following minimum equipment on
them at all times to cover all possible weather conditions:
* Polypropylene, or equivalent (eg woollen), top, hat and gloves
* Windproof parka/jacket
* Survival blanket
* Whistle
* Water
There are no water stations on the course (this is a trail run) so you
need to carry your own water with you.
Please note that for safety reasons use of ipod, mp3 player, Walkman
or similar is not permitted.
Enjoy the surroundings of the Dun Mountain Area - the sounds are worth
listening to as you enjoy your event.
Passing
Faster runner to call 'coming through' and slower runner to step to
inside (landward side) of track.
Medical Conditions
Existing medical conditions should be advised in writing for Emergency
Response Units and forwarded to PO Box 129, Nelson or email
admin@nelsonevents.co.nz at least one week prior to the event. These
should also be noted on the back of your race number.
Emergency medication is to be carried by the competitor at all times.
Training
This is a trail run, therefore it is important that you encompass
training on uneven terrain to prepare appropriately.
We also encourage you to visit your local running shoe store to ensure
your footwear is appropriate to the terrain.
The Finish
The finish is at the OK Corral in Brook Street (bottom of the Dun Mountain
walkway). To

Once you have finished
you can then exchange your race number for your Subway lunch. We recommend
supporters park on the Brook Valley Road, and keep the carpark area
clear for safety purposes.
Post-Race
Function
3.00pm. Venue TBA.
Prizes
Performance and spot prizes will be awarded in all age groups. (First
only less than 7 entries, 2nd less than 10, 3rd if 10 or more). Under
40, 40-49, 50-59, 60+.
Numerous spot prizes will be awarded, however, to be eligible winners
must be at the prizegiving function.
Multisporter Weekend
Run the Subway Dun Run on Saturday, then cycle Te Rauparaha's Revenge
