Nelson Blokes Day Out 2010 Thanks
also to NBS and Nelson Insurance Brokers for their support of the challenges
and to Nelson Bays Holden
for the lead vehicle.
Short workout right! 39minutes 37seconds was all he took to complete the course in what most probably will be a time that will never be beaten. He didnt have it all his own way though as Kim Hogarth was first out of the blocks on the 5km run, holding onto a 150 metre lead into transition - from there though the master prevailed. Hogarth not having the quickest change onto his cycle while Ussher wizzed past and into the distance. From there it was a one-man race as spectators watched a rare treat of one of the worlds finest athletes in motion.
Hogarth had second place all to himself being on his second length of Riverside Pool before four times champion Jon Linyard dived in, bridging the gap to 22 seconds at the end. Frankie Kersten followed, behind him Josh Barry, Joel MacManus and Josh MacDonald (all students) making the top ten.
Adam Gudsell, a newcomer to event walking, gave Michael Harte a surprise denying him Walk section honours - his biking ability being the key. Gudsell also teamed up with his father,Geoff, to win the Nelson Insurance Brokers Generation Challenge. Reigning supreme, Geoff and Matt Black maintained their dominance of the run section, claiming the title for the third time.
Harte didnt leave empty handed with his MS Ford workmate, Barry Amies they secured the NBS Corporate Challenge Walk title. Jon Linyard and Todd McAuley representing Waimea Intermediate School claimed honours in the run section.
In addition to the winners acknowledged above there were many more personal triumphs to celebrate. Quitting smoking, shedding weight, overcoming illness, are just some of the battles that were motivation for some individuals they have earned their bragging rights.
All attention now swings to the women with the Taylors Nelson Womens Triathlon next weekend with a capacity field of 500 registered to start.
