We all have different roles at Nelson Events but are all here to help you. Averil and Graeme have been running events for well over twenty years and are still enjoying the satisfaction of seeing so many people achieving their goals, whether it be completing their first triathlon, running a P.B or completing a tough trail run. Averil also works for the National Heart Foundation as a Health Promotion Co-ordinator and Graeme runs a successful Insurance Brokering Firm.

Amanda and Greg have recently returned to New Zealand after six years overseas, three in Sydney, Australia and three in London, England where Greg worked on the trading floor of major energy companies, and Amanda as a Biology, Health and PE Teacher. Greg comes to Nelson Events with a degree in Commerce, Amanda with a BSc in Psychology and a Diploma in Sports Studies. During the past six years they have competed in many events overseas and bring a fresh approach and new ideas to Nelson Events.

Abbe is still overseas, currently sourcing ideas from Europe - our 'international promoter'
Averil in her glory days, first women home in the Nelson Half (but only recognised for winning the VETS ) - in a time of 1.25.40

WHAT DO WE DO?
Averil is usually the official 'Race Organiser', in charge of event day organisation and STMS. Amanda is admin driven and Greg is our sponsorship guru. Graeme, well, he does a bit of everything, often seen bossing the other four around and even more often the odd competitor. A bit of a grizzly bear in perception, he is actually more of a teddy bear. He is ultimately our creative 'director' - the mastermind of the majority of our events and the concept designer of our cool logos, the event names and trails - a true inspirational ideas man.

Nelson Events is not a full time vocation for any of us - we would love it if we could do it full time! We all have 'real jobs' during the day - so if it takes us a bit longer to respond to you, we are probably either selling Insurance (Graeme and Greg), promoting heart health (Averil), or teaching and being Mum (Amanda).

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our philosophy here at Nelson Events is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Our focus is to make sure everyone involved leaves with a smile on their face and a story to tell. We have traditionally operated on a user pays system where we try to make our events sustainable for 'the long run'. Quality not quantity, and creating a unique experience are words often repeated of our events. Our events are run on some of the most scenic parts of New Zealand and many have historic elements to them - think Captain Cook's Landing (where Captain Cook touched down), Croesus Crossing (after the Croesus mine at the top of Blackball Creek) or the Abel Tasman Coastal Classic (one of New Zealand's top tourist attractions), not to mention the Wild West Coast for The WildCoaster Cycle Ride.

We are not out there to give large amounts of prizemoney to only a few individuals, instead, we aim for every 'Joe or Jill Average' to have the chance to take away some fantastic mementos. Our prize tables are however renowned and many people leave with some awesome prizes.

We are passionate about our events and hope you enjoy what we can offer you.
